LifeWorks Seminar
Since January 2009, Global Lifeworks has hosted annual Lifeworks Seminars in Bakersfield, California for transgender individuals and their partners. The focus is on how their internal conversations impact their lives and their community. Participation in various exercises is designed to open up possibilities for a broader perspective on how they view themselves and their relationships. These groups have been very lively and learned tools for engaging in authentic dialogue and relationships.
- Global Lifeworks has partnered with Stellenbosch Gemeente to serve those infected and affected by HIV/AIDS in Kayamandi, a township of 25,000 people in South Africa. We have worked together in the following areas:
- Distribution of food and nutritional supplements
- Establishment of four Home Based Caregivers who assist those infected with HIV by providing medical attention, a weekly support group, meals, transportation and health education for those at risk for transmission.
- Assisted in establishing an HIV/AIDS clinic for those recently diagnosed with
HIV. Currently
over 500 patients have been served in the clinic.
Past Projects & Activities
On Saturday, June 21 2008, Global Lifeworks (GLW) was pleased to be part of the 20th Annual Long Beach AIDS Walk. This was our first year participating in the AIDS Walk and we were excited to put together a diverse team of 47 people including those in various organizations that we collaborate with, including: The HIV/AIDS Collaborative, Catalyst Long Beach, Kingdom Causes, CHS HomeCare Nursing, and Long Beach Christian Fellowship. One thing that was compelling about this year was the statistic highlighted that over 50% of all new HIV infections occur with youth ages 15 to 24. Our team was made up of individuals and families which included nine members who were youth in this critical age group. We were honored to have raised nearly $10,000 and were treated with a team tent to highlight our group during AIDS Walk. You can look at the pictures of our day together.
